Lights,

Camera,

ACTION!

Children’s Headshots with a Talented Stage Actor and Sweet-As-Can-Be Girl!

I had the joy of photographing this young lady in between two of her stage productions.  Tanner needed updated headshots for her next stage role, and I was only too happy to help.  I’ve seen her on stage, and I’ve seen her in front of a camera, and she is such a natural

Children’s Headshots with lots of variety

For this session we wanted a range of looks to include with her acting portfolio.  We started with a clean, casual look that really showcased her features, then followed that with two different outfits and hairstyles to show her versatility.  We ended with both a formal look (think Audrey Hepurn-esque) and a more “theatre” look… something fun and quirky to show her more in character.  The next play she’s auditioning for is Willly Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, so I think we kinda nailed it with the bubble gum shots.

Acting Out Her Dreams

Her last performance was with The Wizard of Oz at Elm Street Cultural Arts Village.  If you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend it!  My little ones (6 & 4) and I have seen two shows there, and they were both beautifully done productions.  A small enough venue that you can’t get a bad seat, very thorough and creative costuming and set design to transport you, and such talented actors and singers… my kids and I loved them!

Children’s Headshots Should…

  • Showcase their personality
  • Show a range of expressions
  • Include a variety of outfits
  • Help them land their next role!

Civil Engineering with a Collaborative Touch | Branding Session https://branding.hightphoto.com/civil-engineering-with-a-collaborative-touch-branding-session/ Sun, 26 Jul 2020 02:40:46 +0000 http://branding.hightphoto.com/?p=207992

Collaborative Design.

Sitework is the work that has to happen before any construction can take place.  As you can imagine, it incorporates a vast number of people and decisions to complete.  It covers all manner of problem solving.  And it is time sensitive.  Genesis Engineering Cooperative specializes in sitework design.

“I love that engineers have a hand in almost everything we use in society – from the buildings in which we work and live, to the cars we drive, to the clothes we wear, and the food we eat.”

-Jamie Clark

A Truly Dynamic Duo

Jennifer and Michele made quite an impression from the very first meeting. They brought to the table the perfect combination of warmth and professionalism that anyone could have predicted would win prospective clients over.  As they walked me through the highlights of their business, it was also clear they had the knowledge to back it up, as well as a strong network of contacts from years of successful projects in the industry.

I was delighted to get to work with them based on that alone.  But of course a session with a company that does site work for new and re-purpose construction would not be complete without some site visits, and the prospect of photographing in an active construction site was a lovely added bonus.  Hard hats on!

Collaboration Can Change The Game.

Genesis has built their practice around the core value of collaboration.  The Client, Consultants & Contractor are part of the same team looking for the same result…a successful project.  This shows in their work, by their repeat clients, and is so important to their philosophy that it is even in their name.

Welcome to Our Newest Team Member! https://branding.hightphoto.com/welcome-elizabeth-strada/ Sat, 11 Jul 2020 18:38:48 +0000 http://branding.hightphoto.com/?p=207974

Welcome Elizabeth!

Studio Manager

Today is a wonderful day at Colleen Hight Photography!  I am so excited to welcome Elizabeth Strada to the team as our new Studio Manager.  She will be involved all the way through the client process, as well as with much of the backend business management.

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth brings a wealth of desperately needed skillsets to our growing studio.  Everything that gets done quickly and efficiently is thanks to her. She is the anti-procrastinator to my creative flow.

She received her MBA & MHA from the University of Florida, has honed her skills at PwC and a private wealth management firm. She is a master at managing moving pieces and keeping her clients well-informed and relaxed all the way through their experience.

Outside of work, she is the mother of three beautiful girls between 6 & 10.  She is an avid tennis player and an involved volunteer in the schools and community.  And probably most importantly, she is one of the most fun people I know to have drink and relax with.

Things She Likes...

Sharknado

She rarely passes up the opportunity to watch a Sharknado movie when they pop up.  “Sharks. I never saw that coming.”

Ice Cream

She believes picking the right ice cream is a critical part of self care.  (Rocky Road & Butter Pecan are top of her list if you ever need gift ideas)

Exercise

She’s very active, and gets most of her physical activity hiding from her three adorable children.  And removing corks from wine bottles.

Portraits By Victoria D | Branding Session https://branding.hightphoto.com/portraits-by-victoriad-branding-session/ Tue, 07 Jul 2020 02:01:03 +0000 http://branding.hightphoto.com/?p=207881

Both Sides of the Lens

Victoria Doss

Meet Victoria, the artist behind Portraits by Victoria D!  She has been behind cameras for almost ten years. When she’s not working on portrait sessions, she’s probably relaxing at home with her husband or chasing her toddler around.  You probably want to know why she’s not ALWAYS on the far side of the lens since she is model gorgeous with one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen, but if you check out her artwork you will see she is as talented as she is beautiful and the world needs her behind the camera, too.

Behind the Scenes!

Behind-the-scenes images are important for any business to communicate a more complete idea of what to expect when working with them.  Being able to see what the delivery process looks like can be very helpful for clients trying to decide if a product or service (or a company itself) is a good fit for their needs.

Portraits by Victoria D

Victoria has been through some big changes, including growing her business, moving from the Atlanta area to Winston-Salem, growing her family, AND to top it all off, a rebranding of her portrait business.  She is an entreprenuer in the true meaning of the term, and an inspiration in how she serves her clients while prioritizing her family.

Session Gallery

Just a few more shots I loved from Victoria’s session.  Her smile and her personality just light up the day, and working with her was one of my most fun sessions ever.

It’s In the Details: Professional Hair & Makeup Artist https://branding.hightphoto.com/hair-and-makeup/ Sat, 27 Jun 2020 00:21:37 +0000 http://branding.hightphoto.com/?p=207870

Hair & Makeup Artist

A professional hair and makeup artist is included in every session because they will make sure you look like your best YOU when you’re in front of the camera.

Professional Hair & Makeup Styling

;

All the tools and supplies to create any look you want, for any skin tone.

;

Skilled at seeing and emphasizing your best features.

;

Relaxing blow out and dry styling to give you a perfectly polished look.

;

Professional hair products to make your look last all the way through your session.

Makeup

The goal of a skilled makeup artist is actually not to change a thing about you.  Professional Hair & Makeup Artists (HMUAs) study how to emphasize a person’s best facial features while disguising anything you don’t love just by applying makeup.  If you love your eyes, that’s what our HMUA will emphasize.  If your lips are your favorite feature, we make sure they are featured.  And if you are not sure what that is, our HMUA can help you with that, too!  She will make the most of your best features, so when you look at your portraits, you look like your own most beautiful self.

Experienced makeup artists know how to style specifically for being photographed.  Flash lighting and the 2-dimensional nature of photography can cause portrait subjects to appear flat.  Contouring techniques and a knowledge of flash lighting allow an HMUA to make you appear natural.

Butterflies can’t see their wings.  They can’t see how truly beautiful they are, but everyone else can.  People are like that as well.

Hair Styling

Dry styling helps you get a salon-fresh blow-out feel and look for your session. A stylist can reach every strand of hair on your head, so you have a complete, consistent hairstyle that’s as full or sleek as you like it. Even difficult hair is no match for a stylist who has been trained to work with all hair types, from thick to fine, smooth to textured, and even mine that grows three sizes at the first hint of humidity.

A good blowout will last the whole session, and often longer. You won’t have to worry about fly-aways, frizzies, or other hair misbehaviors

hello, i didn’t mean to interrupt your scrolling, i just wanted to say that you’re beautiful

Meet Renee

Meet my go-to HMUA, Renee Locher.  She is the owner and lead artist for Renee Locher Makeup and Hair.  She has worked on sets of all kind, doing makeup and hair for actors and models in commercial and film work. Coming from a performing background, she understands being on both sides of the camera.

She is incredibly talented, and takes the time to understand what each portrait client wants and likes when it comes to their own personal look.

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.   -Audrey Hepburn

Atlanta Graffiti Branding Session https://branding.hightphoto.com/atlanta-graffiti-branding-session/ Sun, 21 Jun 2020 21:52:38 +0000 http://branding.hightphoto.com/?p=207748

Laughing Our Way Through Atlanta

Ann Pinyan

 President/CEO

GRN Sandy Springs

CEO/President

Ann Pinyan

I don’t think I’ve ever met someone with the kind of life and spirit that this CEO brings to the table. It does not hurt that the first thing you realize on meeting her is that she has a killer since of humor. We laughed our way through a list of great Atlanta locations for this Branding Session for her company, Global Recruiters Sandy Springs.

The Graffitti Tour

Ann knew she wanted some colorful graffiti included in her session, so we started with mapping out locations that had artwork that matched the feel and color of her branding, as well as looking for anything special that reinforced her message or brand.  We narrowed it down to a few favorites, and then planned our caravan through Atlanta to hit the graffiti art that made the cut. These were a few of our favorites.

From there I scouted out a few parking lots, buildings, and background architecture that would be on our path, and fit well with the vibe of her session.  For a multi-site, multi-wardrobe session, planning is key!

Included with your Session

Branding Consultation

Thorough review of your current messaging and brand identify to verify it is cohesive and calibrated to your target market.

Custom Session Design

Custom-designed session to match and communicate your voice, your aesthetic, and your brand in every detail.

Professional Makeup

Professional Makeup artist who works with you to understand your personal style to create a look perfect for you.

Professional Hair Styling

Professional styling of dry hair, as well as tools and instructions for us to keep you looking freshly blown-out through your whole session.

Serving Her Clients

Ann is an executive leader, strategist and owner of the executive placement firm, GRN Sandy Springs.  They help companies move their businesses forward with the right people, in the right positions, at the right time.

But more specifically, Ann specializes in executive placement for firms in the healthcare industry.  She is uniquely qualified for this from her vast professional experience serving in the industry, as well as her personal experience as a stage 4 cancer survivor.  She has experienced pretty much every facet of the healthcare system.  What works, what doesn’t, and what people it takes to help hospitals and healthcare businesses operate.

Outside of work

Among other things that make Ann a person truly worth knowing, she is also an ovarian cancer survivor and has blogged about her experiences with an honesty and humor that makes this hard topic accessible.  She’s been an ambassador and a voice for others facing ovarian cancer.  If you’ve ever wondered what someone you know was going through, or what you could do to be THERE for them, this is a blog worth reading.  See below for a few ideas on how to be supportive if you don’t know what to say.

some things to say

when there’s really nothing to say

“I’m sorry. I know this sucks”. Really sometimes I just need you to acknowledge my pain in the moment. Don’t try to fix me. Just hear me.

“When you can’t believe it’s going to get better, I’ll believe it for you”. This one is really good. Many of you say this to me on the regular in some form or other. And it does help.

“What can I do”? My family and friends are great at this one and it is perfect. And we’ve been better about asking for help when we need it.

“I’m here. You can laugh, cry, scream or just be. I’ve got you”. We also have a lot of this in our lives.

Dragonflies

Dragonflies are kind of her jam, and we went out of our way to work them into her session.  You’ll find them sprinkled throughout her session, some subtle and some in your face.  Here are a few.
